Conferences, Players, and Stats

It is time to introduce the conferences.  I have chosen 31 conferences from the NCAA and 1 additional athletic division, the NAIA.  The 31 conferences, and one additional collegiate division, are as follows:

  1. The Sun Belt
  2. The Big West
  3. The Big South
  4. The West Coast
  5. The Patriot
  6. The Summit
  7. The Missouri Valley
  8. The Pac 10
  9. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)
  10. The Ivy League
  11. The Colonial Athletic
  12. The Southeastern Conference (SEC)
  13. The Big 12
  14. The Big East
  15. The Southern Conference
  16. The Atlantic 10
  17. Conference USA
  18. The Metro Atlantic
  19.  The American East
  20.  The Big 10
  21.  The Mountain West
  22.  The Horizon
  23.  The Big Sky
  24.  The Mid-American
  25.  The Atlantic Sun
  26.  The MEAC
  27.  The Ohio Valley
  28.  The Southland
  29.  The SWAC
  30.  The Northeast
  31.  The NAIA
  32.  The Western Athletic Conference

Let me introduce each team and the conference from which it came.  With each player named the following information will also be provided (if possible):  their school, height, their career statistical averages for points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, and 3-point percentage.  Unfortunately, pre 1980 players don’t usually have the statistical data recorded that players who played after that date have.  And, if the player was from the 1930s, 40s, and 1950s the statistical information is limited to points per game and rebounds, and in a few rare situations, only points per game.   So, as I previously mentioned all numbers in red are statistical averages for all players of that position.

I also recorded most post-season awards they may have won.  For example:  Tony Dunkin of Coastal Carolina is the only player in NCAA history, for any conference, to win the Player of the Year award (POY) for four consecutive years.  If, at the end of the season, those who saw him play voted for this person to join the elite POY club, then that has to mean something.  Therefore the computer program will take this into account when that player’s team plays their scheduled opponent.

Now it is time to introduce each conference’s thirteen players, as chosen by moi.

The Big 12

The Big 12 conference officially came into existence in 1994.  But, because the core of the Big 12 was a group of schools called the Big 6, I have decided to use the history of the Big 6 as well.  Later the conference became the Big 7 and then the Big 8.  When the four Texas schools (Texas, Baylor, Texas A & M, and Texas Tech) joined in 1994 the Big 12 was born.

The current members of the Big 12 are: Kansas, Kansas St., Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Iowa St., Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, and West Virginia.

Former members are:  Missouri, Nebraska, and Colorado.

No other conference caused as much indecision for me than the Big 12.  I actually formed 2 separate teams because there were five players that caused me to second-guess myself over and over again.
